Musings From The Second Half of Life

Psalm 85:12-God gives everything good.

I was reading Psalms this morning. This is one of my favorite books of the Bible, because just about every emotion that God created is expressed in this book. There is anger, frustration, admiration, respect, love, compassion, the whole gammit. It demonstrates the fact that we can approach God with anything we are feeling and admit it openly. He created emotion and it is okay to tell him how we feel even when we are angry at HIM!

This morning I was reading chapter 85. It is a psalm of humility, gratitude and faith. It reminded me that Jesus gives me everything that is good. “The Lord shall give that which is good.” I made up my mind today that for the rest of the week I will try to recognize all the good that I can see occurring in my walk each day and thank God for it as it happens. No matter how large or small, no matter how insignificant or important, I am going to recognize the good and say thanks.

That was 4 hours ago (a little after 6 AM) and already I don’t have time to thank him for everything. I think I am going to change it to thanking him hourly and see how that goes.

For now, let me give you a sampling of a few things I have seen. I spent the night with Jayme at a house where she is taking care of pets while the family is out of town on spring break. I was concerned that I would be too tired this morning to get home to get ready for work on time. I woke up and felt refreshed immediately. Not only did I have plenty of time to get ready I was able to get my quiet time. Thank you God! I had almost no traffic on the way to work this morning, so I thanked him for a light commute. I did have one vehicle pull in front of me. I thank God that I was able to get out of the way without being hit. I had to stop at the store before I came to work and located a parking space closest to the entrance. I thank God for convenience. I got to work and was greeted immediately by smiling secretaries. Thank you God for support staff and their good attitudes. I went through my ritual for getting the day started and only had one phone call to return from overnight. Thank you God for some extra time to get my day started. A coworker came into my office to show me ultrasound pictures of her 1st grandbaby. Thank you God for technology to see what you can do inside of a new mom. Until later….
